Grenade Autos: How They're Measured and Notated

You might be thinking, "how can TW3 have autos if it has no angle reader?" Well, this site uses a foolproof method consisting of 'landmark angles' (shown below). You must also understand difference between a Normal Tick (NT) and a Shift Tick (ST).

Landmark Angles: Corner Angle, Top Angle, Default Angle

1) Corner Angle

This is called the "Corner Angle" because the crosshairs (circle with target inside) line up with the corner of the arrow pointing to your player. You do not need to use Shift Ticks to reach this angle. In other words, just aim up using your ↑ arrow key without holding shift until you reach the angle in the screen shots below. This is 20 Normal Ticks up from the Default Angle (starting position), but you don't need to count up to 20; you'll be able to eyeball it.

Any time you see "Corner Angle" (CA), this is what it means. You never have to use Shift Ticks unless indicated otherwise. For example: "CA ↑ 1 ST" means "Corner Angle, then go UP 1 Shift Tick."
DA ↑ 20 NT = Corner Angle

DA ↑ 20 NT = Corner Angle

View the stage without zooming. Line up your player's back foot with the edge of the screen. Using the Corner Angle (shown on the left), your grenade will land on the Ice Patch at the opposite edge of the screen.

2) Top Angle

Pretty self-explanatory. Aim all the way up to reach the Top Angle.

3) Default Angle

Also self-explanatory. The Default Angle is where your grenade is aimed as soon as you open the weapon.

Notation

Take a moment to master the Corner Angles and the Normal Ticks & Shift Ticks, as these will be absolutely essential in understanding grenade autos no matter what map you are learning.

To use this guide, you MUST understand this notation. For example:

• CA ↑ 1 NT = "Corner Angle, then go UP 1 Normal Tick."
• CA ↓ 2 ST = "Corner Angle, then go DOWN 2 Shift Ticks."
• TA ↓ 3 NT = "Top Angle, then go DOWN 3 Normal Ticks."
• DA ↑ 1 ST = "Default Angle, then go UP 1 Shift Tick."

etc.

Now go learn some autos!
